Our Savior's
Arts & Enrichment Committee
Committee Chair: Rachel Bonney
Faculty Contact: Vickie Trout
The Goal of the committee is to provide the children with the opportunity to be exposed to the arts beyond what is presented in the classroom. This is done in a variety of ways.
The Art Outreach Program
The Springfield Art Association sets up portfolios of high quality, fine art images that are loaned to area schools. Each month our school receives a different portfolio. Parent volunteer docents from our school present the artwork to each class. The students receive exposure to fine art and art concepts.
Art Exhibit
The Arts & Enrichment committee sets up a large exhibit each spring to showcase the artwork that the students have produced throughout the year. Volunteers are needed to organize and set up this celebration of student art.
Artist-in-Residency Program
Both local and state wide artists have been invited to share their talents with Our Savior's students. These have included musical artists, story tellers, dancers, writers, and a wide variety of visual artists. Some of the artwork produced by these artists during their time here can be seen displayed throughout the building.
Career day and special events
In the past the Arts & Enrichment Committee has hosted a career day in which they invite a variety of professionals to come and speak to the students. The committee seeks to provide events such as this that will be and enrichment to the excellent education already provided in the classroom.
Vickie Valentine
Funds are needed to provide such programs. A favorite fund raiser each year is the valentine pops. Students, parents, and teachers can purchase a small treat for a student to be delivered on Valentines Day. Other fund raisers may be needed. The Arts and Enrichment committee has also used matching grants from the Illinois Arts Council to pay for Artists-in-Residencies.
