OUR SAVIOR’S SINGS!
Our children love Jesus and love to sing!
King’s Kids: (Kindergarten and Grade 1) You can see their love for Jesus in both their smiles and their faces.
Thankful Praise: (Grades 2-3) As the children learn more stories showing God’s love for His people, they cannot wait to share them with others.
Eagles Soar: (Grades 4-5) As these students learn that God’s love is a part of their loves today, they want the congregation members to feel that closeness as well.
Solid Rock: (Grades 6-8) These students are becoming young adults and their faith is very personal. You can feel their commitment as they sing.
Crossfire: (Grades 4-8) These children just can’t seem to sing and stand still. So as they share the love of Jesus, they use their whole beings in song and dance.
Solid Rock and/or Concert Band – Fall 2011
Students in grades 6-8 have a choice between Solid Rock Choir and/or Concert Band. Students are encouraged to participate in both activities, but if only one option is chosen, a study hall will be offered during the other two class periods. This choice needs to be made during the first week of school. Students in choir and/or band will receive a grade of (E)xcellent, (S)atisfactory, (N)eeds Improvement, or (U)nsatisfactory at each grading period based on attendance, behavior, attitude, and participation. Please carefully read the information below to help you make your decision. All students must choose either choir or band and hopefully most of you will choose both activities! Music is awesome!
Solid Rock is for any 6th-8th grade student who seeks to learn more about reading and singing music in 2-3 part harmony. The class will meet Wednesday and Friday each week for a 45 minute period each day. Performance opportunities include worship services, Christmas services, and possibly more. It is important that students make every effort to attend these choir events. However, if it is not possible, a note MUST be given to Mrs. Harkins prior to the event explaining the absence of the student. It is understood that families should be worshiping together. If your family is not able to attend the worship service, it is acceptable to send a note. We desire for your family to be in worship as a unit. Remember, the more communication between students, parents, and teacher the better the experience and the grade.
Not only can you praise God with your voice, but also by playing an instrument. Concert Band offers many opportunities for performing. At the end of September we get together with the band kids from Trinity and Concordia and play some fun songs like “Rock Around the Clock” and “The Hey Song”. We have lunch together and then parents come on their lunch hour to hear us play. In November we play patriotic music for Veteran’s Day and fun songs at a Pep Rally in the gym. In December we have an Advent Dinner Concert with a mix of sacred and popular Christmas songs. February is Monk Rehearsal Day; March is Bandmania and music contests; April is Lutheran All-State Honor Band; and our Concert on Fine Arts Night in May is a different theme every year. Those who really love to play can audition for a mass band of 160 students at WIU in Macomb! Every person in the band is very important to the overall sound and success of the group. That’s why everyone in band has to take lessons on the instrument he/she plays in the band. We rehearse on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 45 minutes each day. We work hard and we have fun working together to make music. We hope you will decide to join us.
Students must complete the attached form(s) and read the attached Solid Rock expectations and/or Band Handbook. Completed forms can be returned to the office no later than Friday, August 26.
Music is a huge part of worship life and all Scripture. May we all join together in learning what God can teach us through this special gift!
Serving Together with you in Christ,
Mrs. LaJean Harkins
